We have a state of the art digital radiography system (X-ray) and can provide both in-house radiologic interpretation and consultation with a radiologist. We are able to transmit the digital images for the purpose of communication with specialists and other general practitioners (for those of our patients that are seasonal). We are able to schedule in-house diagnostic ultrasound with the use of a mobile veterinary ultrasonographer.
We perform dental ultrasonic scaling and polishing under anesthesia for prophylactic prevention of dental disease, including full-mouth digital dental radiography. Our goal is prevention and maintenance, and we will educate our clients how to maintain good oral hygiene in the future. While under anesthesia, each patient will have full-mouth dental radiographs, to allow us to see the unseen pathology lurking. Extractions, both simple and surgical, include dental nerve blocks and effective pain medication both during and after the procedure.
Welcoming a new pet into your family is one of the joys of being a veterinarian! At Lighthouse Animal Hospital, we follow the American Animal Hospital Association guidelines for puppy and kitten vaccinations, starting them around 6-8 weeks with basic core vaccines and fecal parasite checks every 2-3 weeks until 16-18 weeks old. Routine de-worming and education about both heartworm and flea/tick prevention is part of every puppy/kitten visit, and we provide a New Pet Kit to keep all of your information together. Each animal’s individual vaccine needs are discussed prior to administration, so that we can custom-fit the vaccine needs to the pet’s lifestyle and exposure. Microchipping is available, and often recommended during sterilization surgery to minimize discomfort.
We perform a variety of elective procedures such as spaying, neutering, vulvoplasty, tumor removals, cystotomies, splenectomies and exploratory laparotomy for soft tissue biopsy. We also perform emergency procedures such as pyometra surgery, C-sections, gastrointestinal procedures (gastronomy, enterotomy, intestinal resection and anastomosis) and wound and laceration repair. We provide state of the art anesthesia monitoring including electrocardiogram, capnograph, blood pressure and Sp02 so that we can keep our patients safe during anesthetic procedures. All surgical patients receive IV catheterization and IV fluid therapy. We strongly believe in effective pain management and will make sure that your pet is comfortable both during surgery and during post-operative recovery and healing.
Lighthouse Animal Hospital has a full Idexx suite of blood chemistry machines and analyzers, including a ProCyte CBC, Urine SediVue, Snap PRO, and Catalyst One chemistry. These state of the art machines allow us to evaluate urine, blood components, and metabolic/organ function so that we can provide immediate diagnosis for our sick or infirmed patients. Microscopic analysis of ear cytology, skin cytology, fecal cytology and flotation is also available. Lighthouse Animal Hospital also uses off-site laboratories for routine blood, fecal, and urine screening.
We provide preventative and wellness care customized to fit the lifestyle of each individual patient. Vaccination is based on each pet's individual needs instead of a "one-size-fits-all" policy. We are able to educate and guide you in preventative care for your pet to prevent parasitic infection or infestation that are common problems here in Florida including tick, flea, intestinal parasites and heartworms. We recommend yearly or biannual baseline bloodwork based on the age of your pet so that we can catch problems early and provide the best quality of life for your pet.
